MS 150 CYCLISTS CAN MAKE UP FOR ‘LOST’ DAY WITH TOUR du ROUGE

Tour du Rouge Presenting Sponsor: ModSpace

Houston, TX  - MS 150 Cyclists can recoup the day lost to severe weather with the Tour du Rouge One-day Ride, sponsored by ModSpace. On Sunday, May 3rd, riders will leave the Humble Civic Center and ride 82 miles to Beaumont.   There will be six stops along the route, which goes through small towns and farm and ranch country. Rest stops include: Vine Life Church in Huffman; Woodrow Wilson Junior High Stadium in Dayton; Cedar Grove RV Park in Ames; Devers Elementary/Middle School in Devers; the Dunagan residence on Highway 1009 in Nome; China Elementary School Park in China.

School and community groups will be helping and greeting the riders at each rest stop. Cyclists will be eating lunch at the Devers Elementary/Middle School. The Junior Honor Society and parents will be on hand to help. Devers’ Principal, Cody Abshier, is a cyclist in the one-day ride. He grew up in Devers and attended the elementary school where is now principal.

One of the rest stops, the Dunagan home, was damaged by Hurricane Ike.  The mayor/police chief of Nome is in charge of this rest stop. In China, students, PTO members and Jefferson County Bar Association lawyers will be greeting cyclists. There will be food and drink at the rest stops, lunch and SAG vehicles along the route to provide mechanical and first aid assistance.

The cost of the One-Day Ride is $65 and $25 for transportation from Beaumont back to Houston. For more information and to register, visit www.tourdurouge.org

This one-day ride is the first leg of a six-day ride to New Orleans.   The purpose of the Tour du Rouge is to raise awareness and money for our disaster preparedness along the Gulf Coast. Money is being raised through the cyclists and corporate sponsorships. The American Red Cross Chapters along the six-day route that are participating in and benefiting from the Tour du Rouge are located in Houston, Beaumont, Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

The corporate presenting sponsor for Tour du Rouge, ModSpace, is very familiar with the Gulf Coast and its needs during disasters. Modular Space Corporation (ModSpace), based in Berwyn, PA, has offices nationwide and serves more than 3,500 customers in the Gulf Region through branch locations in Houston, Beaumont, Lafayette, and  New Orleans.  ModSpace assisted with disaster relief efforts during Hurricanes Ike, Katrina and Rita by providing temporary modular buildings for a variety of emergency and medical facility needs. ModSpace continues to support rebuilding efforts in the region today with permanent modular buildings, construction units and portable storage.
