The following First Aid, CPR and AED courses
 are offered chapter-wide.

CPR

CPR - Child and Infant (Also offered in Spanish)(HSSFA203)
Trains lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in children and infants. Certificate Issued and Validity Period for CPR—Child is 1 year|
Length : 3 hours, 40 minutes

CPR - Adult, Child and Infant (Also offered in Spanish) (HSSFA301)
Trains lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants. Length : 4 hours, 50 minutes

CPR & AED  

CPR/ AED - Adult (Also offered in Spanish) (HSSFA107)
Trains lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults.
Length : 4.5 hours    

CPR/ AED for the Professional Rescuer (r.06) (Also offered in Spanish)(HSPRO101)
Teaches those with a duty to act (professional rescuers) the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED ) to care for a victim of cardiac arrest.  Prerequisites :
None. Length : 8 hours

Standard First Aid and CPR & AED

Standard First Aid with CPR/ AED -Adult (Also offered in Spanish) (HSSFA404)
Trains lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults. The course provides the lay responder with knowledge and skills necessary to use an automated external defibrillator ( AED ) on an adult, and provides the lay responder with the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life and to minimize pain and the consequences of injury or sudden illness until professional medical help arrives.
Prerequisites : none
Length : 5.5 hours


Standard First Aid with CPR/ AED - Adult and Child  plus CPR-Infant (HSSFA415)
(Also offered in Spanish) Trains lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults, infants and children. The course provides the lay responder with knowledge and skills necessary to use an automated external defibrillator ( AED ) on an adult and child. Also provides the lay responder with the knowledge and skills necessary to help sustain life and to minimize pain and the consequences of injury or sudden illness until advanced medical care arrives. Certificate Issued and Validity Period for CPR/ AED Adult: 1 year, CPR—Child and Infant:  1 year, Standard First Aid: 3 years.

AED

AED - Adult (Also offered in Spanish) (HSSFA105)
Teaches lay responders the skills and knowledge needed to provide care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest through the safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED ).  Prerequisites : Current American Red Cross CPR—Adult certificate or equivalent that has been issued within 1 year of the course completion.
Length : Approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes

AED - Child   (Also offered Spanish) (HSSFA106)
Teaches lay responders the knowledge and skills necessary to use an automated external defibrillator ( AED ) with pediatric AED pads on child victims between the ages of 1 and 8 or less than 55 pounds. Prerequisites : Current American Red Cross CPR—Child certificate or equivalent that has been issued within 1 year of the course completion.

CPR

Trains lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in children. Certificate Issued and Validity Period for CPR—Child is 1 year.

CPR -Infant (Also offered in Spanish) (HSSFA104)
Trains lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in infants. Certificate Issued and Validity Period for CPR—Infant is 1 year.

First Aid

First Aid: Responding to Emergencies (Also offered in Spanish) (HSRTE1-101)
Provide the citizen responder with the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until advanced medical help arrives.  This program is designed primarily for use in secondary schools, colleges, universities and other settings that require a curriculum of greater length than the American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Program.  This program contains the following components:  First Aid, Adult CPR,   Adult AED , Child CPR  Child

AED , Infant CPR.
Length : 4.5 hours

Standard First Aid with CPR - Adult (Also offered in Spanish) (HSSFA401)
Trains lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults. Provide the lay responder with the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life and to minimize pain and the consequences of injury or sudden illness until professional medical help arrives.
Prerequisites : none.
Length : 5.5 hours    

Standard First Aid  (Also offered in Spanish) (HSSFA101 )
Teaches lay responders the knowledge and skills necessary to give care in an emergency, help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives. Certificate Issued and Validity Period for Standard First Aid is 3 years.This course does not include CPR.
Prerequisites : none.
Length : Approximately 3 hour and 40 minutes

Standard First Aid with CPR - Adult, Child and Infant  (Also offered in Spanish) (HSSFA413)
Trains lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants. Provide the lay responder with the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life and to minimize pain and the consequences of injury or sudden illness until professional medical help arrives. Prerequisites : none.
Length : 7 hours

First Aid for Youth

Basic Aid Training (BAT) (3201)
Introduce children 8–10 year-olds (grades 3–5) to safety information and first aid procedures. BAT introduces  the emergency action steps, Check–Call–Care, as well as to basic first aid procedures including what to do for breathing difficulties, bleeding, poisoning, burns, shock and other emergencies.. An activity book with puzzles and games teaches children how to prevent injuries and what to do in an emergency.
Length : 6 hours

Wilderness First Aid (32290)
Red Cross instructors offer this courses through the Sam Houston Area Council, Boy Scouts of America . For additional information about Wilderness First Aid, check the BSA website at www.scoutcpr.org. Length : 16 hours.
