Volunteer Opportunities

 

Office of Volunteer Personnel Office Assistants provide clerical, typing, computer, and bookkeeping assistance. Receptionists answer phones and perform clerical duties. Help on special projects. All skill levels accepted.

Speakers Bureau:

Join the Speakers Bureau to promote Red Cross programs throughout the community, including disaster preparedness and health fairs. Utilize audiovisuals, exhibits, and demonstrations to support your presentations. Training workshops are provided. Flexible hours, day, evening, or weekends.  

Special Projects:
Use organizational skills to plan special annual volunteer events such as the Annual Volunteer Open House, Health Fairs, Fundraisers, or CPR Mass Training.  

Volunteer Coordinator :
Recruit and retain volunteers. Duties include scheduling volunteers for events and projects. Serves as mentor for new volunteers; participates in planning and committee meetings as required. Organizational skills, strong oral and written skills; extremely people oriented. Upbeat personality and excellent phone skills required.

High School Clubs:
Youth volunteers and school administration form high school clubs in their school or organization that allow students to participate in organized meetings and service learning projects that help their community or school. Projects are compatible with school policy and based on school needs.

Youth Leadership Development Programs: The Red Cross provides a Leadership Development Conference (LDC) for high school students who demonstrate leadership potential. This conference encourages youth volunteers to discover and develop skills in the area of volunteerism, leadership, teambuilding, goal setting, communication and problem solving.

The following is a list  of thirty typical Red Cross volunteer opportunities for your consideration:

  • Board Member: Volunteers serve on local Red Cross unit boards of directors which help to establish policy and direction.
  • Office of Volunteers: Volunteers assist with writing volunteer job descriptions, setting up volunteer orientation courses, conduct volunteer screening interviews, help with volunteer placement, record keeping, and recognition.
  • Disaster Services: Volunteers need to respond to state and national disasters.
  • Disaster Action Team: Volunteers need to respond to single-family fires with a disaster action team supervisor.
  • Disaster Clerical: Volunteers needed to assemble class packets, stamp brochures, and distribute disaster safety information in the neighborhood as necessary.
  • Youth Group Liaison: Volunteers serves as liaison with local youth groups that volunteer with the Red Cross.
  • Youth Team Leader: Adults are needed to help coordinate and supervise activities and service projects. Adult leaders act as positive role models for youth and encourage leadership and personal development.
  • Youth Volunteers/Programs: Students are encouraged to volunteer answering phones, doing office work, help with mailings, preparing materials for classes and computer data entry.
  • Health and Safety Instructor: Volunteers needed to teach lifesaving skills in the community.  Clases such as Babysitting, CPR, First Aid, Lifeguard, Water Safety and other safety presentations.   
  • First Aid Team: Volunteers are needed to help staff special events throughout the year. Advanced medical training is helpful but not required. 
  • Armed Forces Caseworker: Volunteers work with local members of the military and their families ensuring the delivery of emergency communications.
  • International Humanitarian Law Instructor: Volunteers set up and conduct classes on International Humanitarian Law.
  • International Tracing/Services: Volunteers assist in international tracing for persons living overseas, in war-torn countries, who are looking for family members thought to living in our community.
  • Special events and fund development: Volunteers needed to assist and work with the Fund Development Department in special event management, research, data entry and other special projects.
  • Speakers: Volunteer speakers need to do presentations within the community.
  • Clerical: Volunteers need to assist with bulk mailing, filing, and inventory etc.
  • Maintenance: Volunteers needed to help with routine maintenance duties. Stocking supplies and inventory at the shelter.
  • Friendly Visitor Program: Volunteers greet those new to Red Cross.
  • Transportation Driver for Medical Appointments: Volunteers drive local residents to their doctor's appointments.
